Australian Hays

I am interested in Norma Hay who married Charles Edward Bright. I believe he was formerly married to a Macansh .She is descended from Robert Hay who came to Australia aged 4. Robert lived for some time at Ravenswood, owned Palparara with his brother Alec. Hay River named after them. Brother William went to Argentina.

Hi,

I live in Los Angeles, California. If you are talking about William Frederick Hay who moved to Argentina. My husband might be your cousin. William married Rosa Esperansa Flores. We know little about William, however I believe he had a sister named Linda. I have some pictures of William and his parents that visited Argentina with the above mentioned sister. Please reply. My email is sylviachay@comcast.net.

Alway,

Norma and William Hay in Australia

Postby John Hay on Thu Jul 27, 2006 6:44 am

Hope this information helps fill in some Hay information.

Norma and William were children of Robert Hay who married Emilie Neydhart (b. Austria, d. 1939 in Melbourne) and had 6 children. Other children were Eric, Linda, Esma and Ivan. Robert may have arrived in Australia in 1874 on SS Northumberland.

Eric Alexander Hay (b. 1888, m. 1918, d. 1943) was my grandfather. He had three sons: Robert Arthur Hay, John Alexander Hay and Ian Macarthur Hay. Ian was my father and lived at Ravenswood property when young with his father Eric. Eric was a bank manager.

Norma had 4 children - Mary, Ruth, Judy, Margaret.
Linda had no children.
Esma married Lindsay Kerr and had 4 children - Peg, Judy, Patricia, William.
Ivan married Alma Harris and had 2 children - Mary, Pamela.

Please confirm any of the above details. I did try and contact William's descendants (four Hays in the BAires phonebook) when in Argentina about 15 years ago without success.

What children did William have? Any information would be appreciated.
Please send a copy of the pictures of William and his parents to my email : johnhay1@optusnet.com.au

Regards John Hay, Melbourne.

Australian Hay

Postby AussieHay on Mon Oct 16, 2006 10:37 pm

Hi Everyone

I'm trying to discover more about my family history and wish to become involved in Hay history. Hay is my maiden name and some family history is traced but only to a certain point. There is a small house called Hay House situated in a country town in Queensland near Brisbane which serves as a tourist attraction and Hay centre. It is where my Great-Great Grandfather and family first lived on arrival in Autralia. Our branch of Hays (including myself) have always owned and lived on farms in Queensland but this has now ended. If anyone has any further information about this Branch of Hay it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Cynthia

Australian Hay

Hi Cynthia,
i think you may have some luck in Noosa. Walter Hay was a very prominent person in Noosa in the late 1800's, and i would hedge a bet to say that your family in some way related back to Walter.
there is a lady in Noosa that has done a mountain of research on Walter Hay, and actually published a book on him. Her name is Rosie Butler.

good luck,

Brad Hay

Walter Aberdeen Hay of Noosa ( married Mary-Anne Elizabeth Eaton of T-Bar Station near Kilkivan) is my Great Grand Father, who came to Australia as a child with his brother Robert and Father also Robert on the ship 'Lady Kennaway'. departed Leith Scotland. His son Walther is my Grandfather, his Children: Gert, Maisie (Kathy), Mary, Olive, Alma, Ruby, Gordon, Norman, Walter, Ron and Sydney (My Father).

Have heaps of info, but have just moved house and will have to unpack it, have not put it onto computer yet.....one of those jobs still to do.
